My family went on this vacation as my in-laws 50th state. Of course, I planned it around a marathon. Maui marathon was amazing. I would love to go back. I am sharing this itinerary but I may have reversed a few lunch and diners. Also on a few of the days we would go for a drive or just relax. We choose to rent a condo on the beach. We stayed in Honolulu for couple days to visit Pearl Harbor and sight see a bit. It was more than enough. It was a disappointing tourist trap of rich and homeless meshed all together.
In 2014 I ran the Chicago Marathon with a group of girlfriends. It was amazing. I definitely want to go back with my family and hit the Aquarium, Children’s Museum and American Girl Store. We did a lot of walking & shopping on Michigan Ave. My favorite activities and restaurants for marathon weekend are listed below.
We were fortunate enough to be offered a friends condo in Steamboat Springs for the week after Christmas. It was beautiful. I would say a magical fairy tale. This was my all time favorite vacation. It was cold for this Florida girl. The lines at Sports Authority were long bring all your snow gear. Below is a general itinerary of Steamboat during Ski Season. It gets in all the good restaurants and all the fun sporting activities. It was peak week so we tried to only eat at restaurants that took reservations.
New York is an amazing city. It can be very intimidating to first time visitors. My husband and I traveled there pre-kids. While he now loves the city and spends more time there than I do when planning this trip I needed to get it ALL in. He was convinced this would be our one and only time in the big city. I love to plan a vacation almost as much as I love going on the trip. Below is our itinerary of NYC in one weekend. Thanks to a lot of planning we were able to see it all. I hope you find this .pdf helpful. This trip was in 2012, so while FAO Schwarz is gone but this was also during Christmas so we even squeeze in time for the Rockettes.
While I have been to Savannah before below is the itinerary of what we did on this trip. Click on the Savannah Baby Moon Vacation to see the itinerary for a non-race filled weekend. While I really enjoyed the music and weather for this race I am not a fan of running under a road. The Savannah Marathon has several “tunnels” opposite of a bridge. I like to reach the top and rest on the downhill. Here you have to run downhill and then climb your way back up. Continue reading “Savannah Marathon Itinerary”
Galations 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Ephesians 4: 26 “In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. For me gluttony is one of my biggest downfalls. I typically calm my frustration with food so I don’t get angry or yell at my kids. This in turn just creates more anger as I’m mad that I turned to eating in my time of stress. Thus my anger is giving the devil a foothold. As we speak I am using God and weight watchers to help me overcome this foothold. We have been out of the daily reading practice for about a month as we vacationed and the kids were away with my parents for a week. Monday it was back to the normal schedule. This week I have found myself quite frustrated with my son and my patience while he dilly dallies and plays around during our reading time. He is so smart but when its time to read its like a game. Let’s see how frustrated we can make mom. (Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.) It takes every ounce of my being to stay calm and helpful. Once he focuses on the word or sentence he can sound it out like nobody’s business. I have even found my self praying that I can enjoy this time together. I have always enjoyed reading with my daughter and I would love to have that with my busy body son.
As I travel through this journey of striving for a healthy lifestyle and self-control over food I find these frustrating moments are my kryptonite. Do you have any everyday frustrations that you allow to get the better of you? Yesterdays bible study lead me to these verses. When I looked up the antonym for frustrated I found happiness and pleasure were the first two that dictionary.com listed. How fitting since joy is next on my list of the fruits to embrace. Thanks God, I guess like in James you are letting me get some really good practice in on this one. James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Ephesians 4: 26-27 are the two verses that I have chosen as my mantra for the week. I’m sure there are more fitting ones but those have been presented and are what spoke to me.
Which verse speaks the most to you?
BTW, Training for the New York City Marathon begins Monday. EEK. I’m running this one for my father who has been battling Parkinsons since his early 40’s. https://fundraise.michaeljfox.org/2017-TCS-NYC-Marathon/Runneramy

Growing the Fruit of the Spirit through Running
First published- 4/25/2016
Bringing people to God through running is the purpose of this study. For years I have had an internal struggle with running vs. God. Running is my passion but bringing others to God and trying my best to live a Godly life is my purpose. I have just decided to start writing and maybe through this process I will find a way to bring people to God and live a Godly life while I run and help others find a joy in running. I am going to focus first on the nine fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22 reads, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.” I struggle with many if not all of these but I hope over the next 9 weeks to grow in each one of them a little at a time.
Each week while I run I will focus on one verse as my mantra for that run. I also plan to read a bit in the bible a grow my knowledge of these fruits and reflect on ways I can strengthen them in my life.
This first week am going to use Galatians 5:22 as my mantra. Write it on a note card and read it over even bringing it with me on my first run. Reciting it over until I have it memorized and can take it with me on my run.
This first week I am going to focus on love. “the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another.” “Love – Definition of love by Merriam-Webster”. merriam-webster.com.
This weeks workout I don’t know yet…
